Specific Conditions

  • Production companies must have a sound technical and financial set-up and professional experience recognized by the national authority
  • Producers, directors, writers, technicians and performers shall be nationals or permanent residents in either Canada or Malta ; performers who are not nationals nor permanent residents of these countries shall be permitted, subject to approval by the competent authorities of the Parties
  • Live action shooting and animation works must be carried out alternately in Canada and in Malta ; location shooting in another country may be authorized, if the script or the action so requires and if Canadian and Maltese technicians take part in it
  • Co-productions between Canada and Malta and any country with which one of them is linked by an official co-production agreement is favoured by the competent authorities of both Parties ; each minority co-producer will be obliged to make an effective technical and creative contribution
  • Co-produced films shall be shown at festivals by the country providing the majority co-producer unless otherwise agreed by the coproducers or, in the event of equal financial participation of the co-producers, by the country of which the director is national
  • An overall balance will be aimed for with respect to financial participation as well as creative personnel, technicians, performers and facilities (studio and laboratory)
