Nationals of the EU/EEA Member States and Switzerland, including citizens of the two most recent Member States Bulgaria and Romania, are able to work without restriction in Cyprus.

Citizens from all other States need to go through a full Immigration Permit application that can be obteined as follows:

An application has to be submitted to the Civil Registry and Migration Department. In the case of Category E applications, i.e. persons who have been offered permanent employment in Cyprus, it is necessary to prove that the granting of the permit will not create undue local competition. This means that no suitable candidate was available on the Cypriot or European labour market.

No official permission is required for feature film shoots or any other type of production other than the normal requirement for permission from the owner of the authority responsible for the location in question. Most locations only take no more than a week for permission.

There is no system of copyright registration in Cyprus. Copyright is conferred on works once created, as of right. Copyright law protects Cyprus nationals for their works which are published anywhere in the world, and foreign nationals for their works published in Cyprus. Copyright exists in:·  Scientific works, literary works including computer software, musical works, artistic works including photographs and an original database for a period of 70 years, commencing from the death of the author.·  Films, for a period of 70 years, commencing from the death of the last survivor of the following, irrespective of whether they have been appointed conventionally, or are considered by law, as co-creators: producer, primary director, scriptwriter, screenplay writer, composer of any music specially composed for the film. Social security rates for 2011: 6.80% for employees on a salary up to a maximum amount of EUR 4'342 per month, 10.50% for employers on a salary up to a maximum amount of EUR 4'342 per month.
