La llegada del hijo is the new film directed by Cecilia Atán and Valeria Pivato, which finished filming in early December. It took six weeks on location in the province of Buenos Aires to tell the story of Sofía, a character in deep secret mourning who has to welcome home her son, who returns after years in prison. This reunion will be a chance for both of them to bridge the great distance that has separated them ever since the crime was committed.

This is the second joint project for these director-screenwriters after their debut film La novia del desierto, which had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival and for which they received awards such as the Golden Colon for Best Feature Film at the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival, the Coral for Best First Film at the Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema and the Silver Condor for Best First Film.

In the words of its directors, "in our society, motherhood has been a sacred and unquestionable concept since the beginning of time, and the mother is that unique figure, capable of bestowing unconditional love. In La llegada del hijo, through the role of its protagonist Sofía, we wanted to question the established limits and mandates, raising new questions and reflections on a subject that has been represented hundreds of times from a hegemonic perspective. As part of this new approach, both the structure of the story and the aesthetic have been designed to create a dialogue with the audience, full of nuances", they conclude.

La llegada del hijo is a Spanish-Argentine film produced by the Spanish companies Setembro Cine and Tandem Films, and the Argentinian company Tarea Fina, with the participation of RTVE and financing from the ICAA, ICEC and INCAA, plus the support of Programa Ibermedia and Europa Creativa MEDIA. The film will be distributed in Spanish cinemas by BTeam Pictures
