The shoot wraps for El cuento del lobo

Principal photography has just wrapped on location on Tenerife for El cuento del lobo (lit. “The Tale of the Wolf”), a thriller reflecting on violence against women and social engagement, starring Daniel Grao (who, after appearing in the series The Invisible Girl, has just been gracing screens in another show, Iron Reign, and acted in the film Yo no soy esa, which was presented at the most recent Málaga Film Festival and is awaiting a theatrical release), Lucía Jiménez (who was glimpsed in the series Headless Chickens and who has just made her directorial debut with the short film El trono), Paco Tous (recently in A Chef for Dalí and the series La academia [+see also:

This is the big-screen adaptation of the stage play Duda razonable by Borja Ortiz de Gondra, directed by Galician helmer Norberto López Amado, who was behind the series The Invisible Girl (on which he worked with Daniel Grao), the fiction feature Sara’s Notebook [+see also:

The synopsis introduces us to journalist Olga (played by Lucía Jiménez) and Javier, a university professor (played by Grao), who, while having dinner at home, hear the ring tone of a mobile phone belonging to Lucía, the cleaning lady (Romanillos), who has forgotten it in the house. When the woman answers it, she hears a man’s voice hurling threats of violence, and so she warns Lucía, who categorically denies that she is being abused… until she turns up in a plaster cast. The couple are plagued by serious doubts: should they come to the aid of this person who doesn’t want to be helped, or should they keep their noses completely out of her business?
“The relationship of trust I have with Dani, Lucía, Paco and María has been crucial because they have helped me to improve the scenes beyond measure,” states the El cuento del lobo director. “Shooting a film this way, where everyone has contributed things, has made it one of the most important projects of my career,” he admits.
It's an experience that the director describes as “a shoot bristling with emotions” and one with which he has been able to make a dream come true – that of filming scenes he has written himself: “Normally, I shoot screenplays that other people have written, but in this case, I adapted the original work and made many additions.”
The result has been made possible by the work of DoP Néstor Calvo (La noche que mi madre mató a mi padre [+see also:

film profile]): “He’s been enormously supportive because we’ve played with the light and the camera movements from a psychological perspective, challenging ourselves with each take, seeking the maximum amount of expression but from a place of simplicity,” sums up the director as he ponders the development of the movie, which lays out a moral conflict: what to do when you’re faced with a situation that could change another person’s life?
El cuento del lobo is a production by Secuoya Studios, Álamo Producciones Audiovisuales and A Contracorriente Films, with the latter also taking care of its Spanish distribution. Latido Films handles international sales.
