The LUX Audience Award reaches out to cinemas to promote engagement in the European elections

As the European elections (6-9 June) rapidly approach, the LUX Audience Award is reaching out to cinemas across the European Union to join it in promoting democracy and civic engagement.

The European Parliament's award is providing cinemas with ad-hoc materials to support the European elections campaign, including digital cinema packages (DCPs) of the official promotional video. These materials are designed to be shown before or after movie screenings, reaching diverse audiences and encouraging them to participate in the elections. Cinemas can download the DCPs via this link (protected by a password until the date of the official launch of the campaign).

The official launch will take place on 29 April. At the heart of this campaign lies a collection of videos, among which is a four-minute documentary called Pass It On and a 30-second adaptation, specifically adapted for cinemas. It features intimate testimonies from grandparents who have witnessed democracy’s precious nature and fragility at first hand. Through conversations with their grandchildren, they share their faith in democracy and pass on a fundamental message: use your vote or others will decide for you. On top of the two videos, there are also dedicated social-media assets in case cinemas would like to remind their audiences to use their vote. All of the assets are available in 33 languages.

Any cinemas interested in participating in this initiative should fill out this survey. The feedback provided will help gauge interest and tailor support to meet the needs of movie theatres across the EU. The organisers can also be contacted at luxaward@europarl.europa.eu.
