France and Estonia sign a co-production agreement
- The Estonian Minister of Culture and the French Ambassadress to Estonia signed a co-production agreement between the two countries on 28 April
A cinematic co-production agreement between France and Estonia was signed in Tallinn on Friday 28 April by Estonian Minister of Culture Indrek Saar and the French Ambassadress to Estonia, Claudia Delmas-Scherer. It will allow official bilateral co-productions to be set up between the two countries, thus opening up the possibility for co-produced movies to obtain dual nationality and therefore gain access to both countries’ support measures. This, in turn, constitutes a strong incentive for artistic collaboration between professionals from the two territories.
Commenting on the signature of the agreement for Cineuropa, Edith Sepp, managing director of the Estonian Film Institute, stressed, “Today is a day of great significance for Estonian film because signing this agreement with France will open the door of opportunities to both countries when it comes to official co-productions. We have a few films in the pipeline, and I can assure you from our side that Estonian filmmakers have been very keen to elevate their relationships with their French counterparts. I do hope this is the beginning of some wonderful friendships.”
One of the current international projects involving Estonia (see the news) is Mister Pichin’s Last Journey by Søren Kragh-Jacobsen, a movie portraying the last days of composer Frédéric Chopin, played by French actor Romain Duris, which is a co-production between Denmark (Nimbus Film), France (Mact Productions), Belgium (Panache Productions), Poland (Akson Studio) and Estonia (Meteoriit).
