BUCHAREST: Peter Webber's The Medusa, starring Jesse Eisenberg, Pierce Brosnan and Vanessa Redgrave, will be shot entirely in Romania at Castel Film Studios from July until end of September 2017.

The second feature film of the British director following his acclaimed 2003 film Girl With A Pearl Earring focuses on the life of another painter, the French Romantic painter Théodore Géricault (Jesse Eisenberg), who became famous after painting The Raft Of The Medusa (1818-1819) inspired by the sinking of the French frigate Méduse on the coast of today’s Mauritania.

The script is penned by Sophia Al-Maria after the novel The Wreck Of The Medusa by Jonathan Miles.

The film will be shot at Castel Film Studios and on location. The most spectacular and difficult part of the shooting will be the sinking of the frigate and will take place in the studios' water tank. Most of the crew is Romanian.

The film is a medium budget British production produced by Raffaella De Laurentiis through Raffaella Productions in coproduction with Das Films. This is the second project by Raffaella De Laurentiis at Castel Film after Universal's fantasy film Dragonheart 4 by Patrik Syversen, shot in 2016. Castel Film Studios is servicing.

Webber visited Romania in 2014 as a member of the jury of the NexT Film Festival. On that occassion he said that his grand-grandfather was Romanian and he is the first in his family to return to visit Romania.
