GRANTS: Czechs Support Nine Doc Projects

By

PRAGUE: The Czech State Cinematography Fund's Office announced development grants to nine documentary projects in its June 2017 session. A total of 22 projects applied, which is the most projects to apply since 2015, and the budgets were also higher than in recent rounds.

With the allocation of 133,105 EUR / 3.5m CZK, the Council had enough money available to support only nine projects, although another eight projects exceeded the amount of points needed for support. The Fund will therefore consider increasing the allocation in the next calls.

The Council noted that the quality of the applications and the readiness of the projects greatly improved. The projects represent a wide range of documentary genres and thematically cover not only historical events and portraits of personalities but also strong current philosophical or social subjects. An interesting phenomenon is the high number of coproduction projects. The Council positively assessed their potential to represent Czech cinema abroad.
