PRAGUE: Jan Svěrák’s Barefoot in a Stubble / Po strništi bos is leading the weekend admissions chart in Czech Republic with 113,000 admissions.

The film's box office is 675,000 EUR / 17.62 m CZK, according to the Czech Film Distributors Union.

The story of Barefoot in a Stubble (produced by Biograf Jan Svěrák Pictures) returns to the war childhood of the director’s father, Zdeněk Svěrák, and is a prequel to another extremely popular film of the Svěráks’ tandem, The Elementary School / Obecná škola (1991, Barrandov Film Studio).

The successful father and son collaboration was rewarded in 1997, when their film Kolja (produced by Biograf Jan Svěrák and Pandora Cinema, France) won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Barefoot in a Stubble, which was released by Bioscop/AQS on 17 August 2017, comes sixth in the first weekend attendance chart of Czech films. The long term winner is Jiří Strach’s Czech/Slovak coproduction The Angel of God 2 / Anděl páně 2 (Marlene Film Czech Republic, Et cetera group, Attack Film) with 188,000 admissions, released on 1 December 2016.
