    RIGA: Varis Brasla's family film Grandpa Is More Dangerous than the Computer has become the most successful domestic family film in the opening week with over 13,000 admissions. The film, produced by Studio F.O.R.M.A., is also second in the Latvian admissions chart.

    The first of 16 films in the Latvian Films for Latvian Centenary programme, Grandpa Is More Dangerous than the Computer is a story about an 8 year-old boy from the city, who has to spend the summer with his grandfather in a small town in the countryside. Unfortunately, his grandfather does not like computers, dirty dishes or lies; however, he does live by certain principles.

    The most successful Latvian film in recent years is Chronicles of Melanie directed by Viesturs Kairišs and produced by Mistrus Media with 13,000 admissions in the first week and 75,160 total admissions. Chronicles of Melanie cashed in 241,595 EUR since 4 November 2016.
