Slovenia Discusses Women in Film Sector

    LJUBLJANA: The Slovenian Film Centre is organising the international panel discussion Women in the Film Sector: A Gender Issue at Klub Lili Novy at Cankarjev dom, Ljubljana on 20 March 2018. The participants are film directors, critics and the representatives of Eurimages.

    Joining the worldwide campaign against gender discrimination, the Slovenian Film Centre organises this single day event within the 20th Documentary Film Festival, which is held in Ljubljana in cooperation with Cankarjev dom, the Slovenian Cinematheque and Kinodvor from 14 to 21 March 2018.

    Kristina Borjesson, photo: Alva OhlssonThe programme includes presentations about the Council of Europe Recommendations, Eurimages Strategy and other activities in the field of gender equality, followed by discussions in the presence of Slovenian film directors Urša Menart, Sonja Prosenc, Hanna Slak, Maja Weiss and Ida Weiss.

    Enrico Vannucci (Deputy Executive Director of Eurimages), Susan Newman-Baudais (Eurimages), Kristina Börjeson (Head of Film Funding from the Swedish Film Institute), Maja Bogojević (film critic from Montenegro) are among the guest speakers.

    Susan Newman BaudaisSlovenian documentaries My Way 50 (2018) directed by Maja Weiss, and Peter vs. Harry (2017) directed by Ida Weiss, will screen at the Slovenian Cinematheque.

    According to the latest research in the Slovenian film sector, the share of the released feature films with female directors and SFC funding between 1995 and 2017 was 11%, the share of the female film directors (members of the Collecting Society of Authors, Performers and Film Producers of Audiovisual Works of Slovenia, AIPA) was 24.5% in 2017, while the percentage of females in employment was 45 in 2017.

    Twenty nine percent of females graduated in film directing at the Slovenian Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) between 1995 and 2017.
