MIDPOINT brings three workshops to Serbia
Director Ivan Stojiljković

After partnering with Iceland and Slovakia, MIDPOINT, an international training and networking platform for script and project development for emerging film professionals, has taken its two programmes, Feature Launch and Shorts, to Serbia, and established the Intensive Serbia workshop in collaboration with the country's Film Center.

After the first residential workshop during Eastweek at the Trieste Film Festival, the writers, directors and producers from Central and Eastern Europe taking part in Feature Launch have taken their nine projects (the full list can be found here) to Belgrade. As they are developing their first or second feature films, they are focused on project development, financing and co-production opportunities through lectures and master classes given by experts such as Gabriele Brunnenmeyer ("How to Pitch Your Film – Six Questions for the Pitch"), MIDPOINT head of studies Danijel Hočevar ("European Film Financing Sources"), Christina Liapi ("Marketing as Storytelling"), Olimpia Pont Chafer ("The Role of a Sales Agent"), Océane Portal ("Lessons from Online Distribution"), Alessandro Gropplero ("How to Survive in the Big Jungle of Co-production Markets"), Stefan Arsenijević ("How One Short Film Can Change Your Life") and Manfred Schmidt ("How to Build a Funding Strategy").

The first generation of MIDPOINT Shorts participants, who also started at Trieste in January with their four projects (the complete list can be found here), have joined Feature Launch in Belgrade, but their lecturers also include short-film experts Wim Vanacker ("Truth or Dare: The Key to Finding a Way In") and Marcin Łuczaj ("Dos and Don’ts in [Short] Film Sales").

Finally, MIDPOINT Intensive Serbia held its first workshop between 29 April and 2 May, and the four teams, consisting of a producer, a director and/or a writer, worked on the creative development of the script as well as on the production aspects of their projects. After the workshop, tailor-made online consultations with the core tutor will be held, according to the needs of each project.
