Reruns by Rosto

The winners’ list of the Anima - Brussels Animation Film Festival (1-10 March) was tinged with mourning, as the jury handed its Grand Prix to the last short film by RostoReruns, an explosive cocktail of incongruous images shot live and reworked in 3D, which invites audiences to delve into the artist’s recollections, particularly his childhood memories. This is the fourth instalment in an inspired tetralogy of his group’s musical creations. The Dutch filmmaker, author and musician passed away prematurely on 7 March 2019 at the age of 50, as he was preparing his feature debut. Having risen to fame with a graphic novel published online in an episodic format (Mind My Gap), he also directed ten or so short films, and forged a parallel career as a musician with the group Three Wreckers. Fittingly, his films are characterised by a certain style of hybrid art, reflecting his multidisciplinary body of work. The film was produced by Autour de Minuit, Studio Rosto AD and A Private View.
