The 41st edition of the Sorrento International Cinema Meetings, due to be held in the Italian coastal town between 10 and 14 April, will be dedicated to Germany and will feature the usual mix of events, meetings with filmmakers and protagonists, round tables, panels including guest speakers, screenings and previews. Also expected in Sorrento are a large number of other guests, including Christian De Sica, Doris Dörrie, Pupi Avati, Dario Argento, Lino Banfi, Anne Kenis, Markus Goller and Yasemin Samdereli. Tribute will be paid to German cinematography by way of a retrospective intitledFRAUENfilm – Directors, dedicated to the leading ladies of German film and put together with the help of the Goethe Institute. Among the line-up of films to be presented are The Water Inside, in the presence of director Isabelle Stever, Spiced Up Jack by Buket Alakus, who will also be attending the screening of her work, and Almanya – Welcome to Germany, directed by Yasemin Samdereli. Attending alongside these modern-day, female filmmakers from Germany will be director, producer and writer, Doris Dörrie, one of the most important women in German cinema today. , having hit German cinemas on 7 March, Sorrento will see Doris Dörrie in conversation with the public and comparing notes with an Italian female filmmaker. Attendees can then get a second fix of Doris Dörrie’s work by way of the screening of her film, Fukushima, Mon Amour [+see also:

It will be the De Sica family who will open this year’s edition of the International Cinema Meetings. The event’s hosts will reveal all the latest developments surrounding the prestigious De Sica Award, which will be making its return to Sorrento courtesy of the Italian Film Academy and the David di Donatello Awards. This presentation will be preceded by a screening of the German work directed by Simon Verhoeven, Welcome to Germany [+see also:

, a film which is already a box-office hit back home, clocking up well over 4 million admissions, and which is set to kick off the many film screenings at the event.

Among the various activities scheduled to take place in Sorrento, there will be no shortage of opportunities to meet the stars of Italian cinema. The director, Pupi Avati, accompanied by his brother, the screenplay-writer and producer, Antonio Avati, will form the focus of the first meeting, to be followed by those featuring Dario Argento, the master of spine-tingling film who was only very recently honoured with a Special David di Donatello award, and Lino Banfi, the Italian actor who leads the cast in the 2009 German-produced title, Maria, He Doesn’t Like It - directed by Neele Leana Vollmar -, and who is set to attend the movie’s screening in Sorrento. 

The event will also see its fair share of Italian premieres, namely films produced or co-produced with Germany. This section will kick off on Friday 12 April with Adam & Evelyn [+see also:
