La prima onda: A collective film to tell the tale of Milan at the time of COVID-19

An anthology film, a means through which to relay, through art and through film, the surreal reality that Milan is experiencing in these times of the Covid-19 crisis. This is the idea put forward by MIR Cinematografica, the production company who, in 2015, participated in the joint project The Bridges of Sarajevo [+see also:

, presented in a Special Screening at the Cannes Film Festival. Together with AIR3 Associazione Italiana Registi and the Milan Film Festival - and in collaboration with Proxima Milano, Operà Music and NABA - The New Academy of Fine Arts - Francesco Virga’s firm is inviting all audiovisual professionals currently working in Milan to contribute towards La prima onda (the film’s provisional title was Instant Corona), whether directors, filmmakers, authors, sound technicians, composers, colourists or directors of photography.

Participants can offer up their own works and contribute towards a creative testimonial revealing what’s happening in the Italian region worst affected by Coronavirus. It’s an opportunity which looks to draw in and shine a light on all those professions linked to the audiovisual world in the Lombard capital.

Audio and video content produced by directors and film teams can be based around any particular subject of interest. The location could be a road, a block of flats, an interior, an exterior or a zone that’s physical or mental, cultural, social or consumer focused. Works can also express a relationship of some kind between Milan’s citizens, all this with a view to offering the widest and most composite snapshot possible of the social environments and locations of the city, in both its physical form and its internationally “networked” status. Clearly, this work must be carried out in full compliance with the measures adopted to combat the virus. All forms of audio and video recordings are acceptable, whether produced using iPhones or professional cameras, and there are no limits when it comes to the technical and artistic language of each work. The material produced will be gathered together by MIR Cinematografica and assembled in a collaborative fashion.

Those wishing to take part in the project, on a voluntary basis, should contact MIR Cinematografica by writing to Stefania Villa (svilla@mircinema.com) or by calling +39 340 7044971. Full project details can be downloaded here.
