Polish director Wojciech Smarzowski has recently wrapped the Latvian shoot of his new project, a comedy entitled The Wedding Day [+see also:

(2018), a drama about the sins committed by the Catholic Church in Poland and dealing with several controversial themes, such as corruption, paedophilia and alcoholism.

The shooting of The Wedding Day took place from 31 July to 14 August in Tukums and in the Cibla region, and saw the participation of Latvian actor Juris Gornavs, as well as local crew and extras. Filming is planned to continue until November.

The script, penned by the director himself, revolves around a family attending a wedding. In the background of this event, we follow the family's complex relationships and destiny. The dynamic storyline involves love, jealousy, financial machinations and even blackmailing. Gradually, the modern-time plot mixes together with historical events that took place during the Second World War, and grandfather Antoni (or, as he was called in his young years, Antek) takes the lead.

The main cast includes actors Agata Kulesza, Robert Więckiewicz, Michalina Łabacz, Mateusz Więcławek and Arkadiusz Jakubik. Piotr Sobociński Jr. (Corpus Christi [+see also:

The Wedding Day is co-produced by Poland's Studio Metrage and Latvia's Tasse Film. The project also received support from the National Film Centre of Latvia and the Polish Film Institute. The film is slated for release in autumn 2021.
